Friday 25th - Road Safety Music Challenge 2008 - How to enter
Young musicians and singers in Pembrokeshire are being invited to take part in ‘The Music Challenge’ – a new and exciting road safety initiative.
The Challenge asks young people aged between 14 and 25 to write and perform their own song, promoting anti drugs-and-driving or anti drink-and-driving messages.
Winners will receive £150 worth of vouchers for a local store of their choice – plus, they’ll have their song played on Radio Pembrokeshire - AND have it recorded in a local studio.
They’ll also have the chance to represent Pembrokeshire in the Dyfed area finals.
The Challenge is being organised by Pembrokeshire’s Road Safety Unit.
“We want young people to create songs that will pass on the very important message that mixing drinking and driving or taking drugs and driving is extremely dangerous,” said John Gobbi, Road Safety Officer for Pembrokeshire County Council.
“Driving motor cars is a responsible activity that demands 100% attention.
“It is hoped that by highlighting this fact, we will help to reduce road traffic casualties on Pembrokeshire’s roads, particularly involving young people.”
The event is sponsored by Chevron Texaco, Welsh Assembly Government and Pembrokeshire County Council.
On 25th April, there will be a Big Final at the Queen’s Hall in Narberth, where the 10 best entries will play their songs and a winner will be chosen. There may also be preliminary rounds during March/April if a large number of entries have been received.
